A protocol aims to climb Bitcoin with smart contracts

Arkade would add a virtual execution layer to enable Bitcoin intelligent contracts.

The team behind Arkade presented open source tools for developers and users.
Ark Labs, the company behind Ark, a second layer of Bitcoin (L2), presented Arkade, a tool that aims to improve the scalability of the chain created by Satoshi Nakamoto.
The Arkade protocol is a virtual execution layer that aims to transform The way in which transactions with bitcoin are madepotentially allowing the creation of more advanced financial applications through the use of intelligent contracts.
Through that protocol, the L2 ARK, which already facilitates payments outside the chain in Bitcoin, would evolve with Arkade (the virtual execution environment) to allow the funds in BTC to manage to be managed programmable way through intelligent contractspreserving the security and simplicity that distinguish the main network of Bitcoin.
However, Arkade is still in the development stage and from Ark Labs say that it will be operational in the third quarter of 2025.
What is Ark and how does Bitcoin work?
To understand Arkade, it is first necessary to understand what Ark is and his role in the Bitcoin ecosystem. ARK is a second -layer network based on the main layer of Bitcoin with the aim of relieving the load of the latter, allowing faster and more economic transactions Without compromising your safety, similar to what Network (LN) does.
ARK is based on a key concept: the VTXO (virtual transaction outputs). These VTXO could allow users Make out -chain paymentsthat is, without the need to send each movement for its immediate confirmation in the Bitcoin block chain, where transactions are recorded by the network itself.
Instead, Ark Organize those transactions in a structure known as pre-circulated transaction tree. This “tree” is composed of a set of possible transactions defined by the ASP (ARK service provider), an entity that coordinates and manages operations within the ARK network, using as a basis the funds that users delegate and the rules established by the protocol.
In ARK, these transactions are organized in rounds, which are periodic events coordinated by the ASP, where users can participate to make payments, renew their VTXO or manage their funds.
For example, let’s imagine that Maria, Marcos and Juan participate in a round: each one contributes 0.1 BTC, and the ASP generates a tree that includes transactions As one that would allow Alicia to claim her 0.1 BTC if she decides to leave, another for Marcos to renew her VTXO, and one more for the ASP to manage Juan’s funds if they expire.
These transactions are pre-filled by all participants in the round, both users (Alicia, Marcos and Juan) and the ASP, which would guarantee that they can be executed in Bitcoin if necessary, although although They are only activated in specific situationsas when a user decides to leave unilaterally from the network or when the VTXO reach their expiration date.
Additionally, another important element in ARK is the connectors, which ensure that the transactions are atomic, that is, that they are completed or not performed at all, avoiding risks of loss of funds.
In addition, ARK uses the periodic round mechanism to renew the VTXOs that are about to expire, which would guarantee that users always had access to active funds and could continue to operate without interruptions.
Arkade: An operating system for financial applications
With Arkade, Ark Labs bets to introduce a virtual execution layer that could allow program money on Bitcoin. In simple terms, Arkade would act as an operating system for Bitcoin -based applications, which could allow developers Create intelligent contracts that would be executed outside the chain, but that would be backed by Bitcoin’s security.
An intelligent contract is a program that automatically executes actions When certain conditions are methow to send payments or transfer assets. For example, an intelligent contract could be programmed to send Bitcoin to a supplier only after the delivery of a product was confirmed.
Thus, Arkade is presented as an option for developers to potentially Build complex financial applications, without sacrificing the security or simplicity offered by Bitcoin.
In turn, Arkade (the virtual execution environment with intelligent contracts from ARK) would be based on the same technical foundations as ARK (L2), such as the VTXO and pre-circulated transaction trees, but would combine them with other tools for programming.
Arkade tools for developers
Ark Labs has made available to developers an set of open source tools so that they could start working in this new environment.
One of them is the Arkade Compiler, which would use a programming language inspired by tools such as Ivy and CashScript. This compiler could allow developers Write intelligent contracts in a simpler syntaxwhich would later become Arkade Script, an optimized format to run outside the main bitcoin chain.
In addition, Arkade included an interpreter of scripts Personalized that would expand programming capabilities in Bitcoin. This interpreter would add more than 30 new OPCODES (programming instructions), such as OP_CAT, which could allow combining data, and others related to introspection and arithmetic operations. These improvements would make it possible for smart contracts to be more flexible and could handle more complex use casesnatively integrating Ark’s vtxes.
The team behind the L2 ARK developed a wallet for users
For users, Ark Labs created Arkade Mobile Wallet, a mobile purse that functions as a progressive web application, that is, one that runs on a web browser, but behaves like a native app, without being discharged from an application store. This means that users could access the Wallet from any device with a browser, and the application offers an experience similar to that of a traditional app, such as notifications or access without connection in some cases, according to the announcement of Ark Labs.
The Wallet, as reported by Ark Labs, incorporates modern authentication through Passkeys (access keys) and would manage VTXOS easily.
Finally, Arkade offers software development kits. These tools are already designed for users and developers to try and optimize them, preparing the land towards the launch of Arkade on the main network, a step that Ark Labs expects to give soon.
