  • Elon Musk and Neuralink They are looking for another volunteer to test their brain chip
  • Must be a person who has quadriplegia and agrees to undergo the corresponding surgical intervention
  • The call comes a week after the first volunteer had problems with his implant
  • Despite what happened, the team Neuralink made the respective corrections and the chip’s operation was restored

Neuralink, The company owned by Elon Musk for the development of brain implants is looking for a second volunteer candidate to test its device, and thus advance the design of this solution on which they have been working for years.

The call was shared by Musk himself through a message published on his X account (Twitter), in which it reads:

Neuralink is accepting applications for the second participant. This is our Telepathy cybernetic brain implant that allows you to control your phone and computer just by thinking.

Attached to this message is a publication from the official account of Neuralink on said social network, where they share a video that details the case of Noland Arbaugh, the first human volunteer with tetraplegia to test the chip developed by the company, which allowed him to interact with electronic devices through his thoughts.

This message reads:

Redefining the limits of human capacity requires pioneers. If you have quadriplegia and want to explore new ways to control your computer, we invite you to participate in our clinical trial.

More tests in humans

As detailed in a report by the news network CNN, The call for the second volunteer comes five months after Neuralink implanted the chip in Arbaugh, who carried out a large number of tests to verify the new capabilities enabled by this product.

However, the call also comes a week after Neuralink revealed that Arbaugh’s implant experienced technical problems, as the wires connecting the device to her brain had retracted, causing performance problems and requiring a physical adjustment to restore functions.

Despite the recent inconveniences, Arbaugh in recent statements assured that the chip brought a very important positive change to his life, since it has allowed him to perform actions that, given his condition, would be unthinkable:

“I had no reason to wake up in the morning, and this has changed that for me,” Arbaugh said in an interview conducted by the program Good Morning America broadcast today. “I was very happy to be a part of something that I think is so monumental. “This is the next step in helping people with paralysis.”

By seeking a second volunteer, Neuralink seeks to replicate the results recorded by Arbaugh. The intention is “using implants to connect human brains to computers to help, for example, paralyzed people control smartphones or computers, or blind people regain their sight”indicates CNN.
