Inflation will close at 2.7% this year after moderating in December due to fuel prices

Inflation will end a turbulent year due to the tariff war and geopolitical tensions at 2.7% on average, practically at the same level as it closed last year (2.77%). The advance of the CPI data released this Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) confirms that the prices of the shopping basket would have moderated by one tenth in December compared to the previous month to 2.9%, which would be its lowest level since August. Fuel prices, which have fallen in the last month, have contributed to this.
Sources from the Ministry of Economy, Commerce and Business assure that the fact that the average inflation for the year has moderated by one tenth allows “families to continue recovering purchasing power.” The underlying rate, which excludes fresh food and energy from its calculation and which tends to reflect whether price tensions are a more structural or temporary problem, stands at 2.3% on average this year, six tenths below that of 2024 and more in line with the objective of the European Central Bank (ECB).
