  • Network TON has gained a lot of popularity in recent times
  • However, currently it has also seen an increase in cases of phishing attacks.
  • Low network costs and public interest have attracted bad actors
  • Slow Mist warns users to be very careful when operating on the network TON

TON, network Blockchain supported by the team Telegram, has seen a marked increase in phishing attacks (data theft), which is why some cybersecurity firms are warning about the risks involved in operating on said network.

Phishing attacks proliferate

Although several firms have made this same warning, on this occasion a new report by the company Slow Mist warns about the proliferation of phishing scams, due to the low operating costs of the network TON, Therefore, many elements, bots and programs are distributed that only seek to steal the information and credentials of potential victims.

In this regard, the founder of Slow Mist wrote in X:

Phishing in the TON ecosystem has started to increase. The Telegram ecosystem is too free. Many phishing links (or bot forms) are spread through message groups, airdrops and other deception methods are used to delete relevant assets (including NFTs, especially NFTs) in users’ TON wallets in batches , such as anonymous Telegram numbers, which are similar to mobile phone numbers.

Among the types of phishing there is a type of attack called “adversary-in-the-middle”, which seems to be one of the most common and involves the use of mechanisms to deceive victims through false campaigns and offers with which they circumvent security mechanisms. Therefore, they warn that through offers of NFTs and Airdrops Victims unknowingly grant access to attackers.

The report comes at a time when the TON network is gaining a lot of popularity due to the operational benefits it offers, as well as the possibility of connecting directly with Telegram to be able to use Web3 products and services. However, this has also attracted bad actors, who seek to take advantage of potential victims in very creative and unexpected ways.

Interest in the network TON

TONthe layer 1 network that was born in 2017 as a project originating from the messaging platform Telegram, has been gaining a lot of traction in recent times.

Last week, Binance announced support for the stablecoin Tether (USDT) in the ecosystem TON, so deposits and withdrawals USDT to and from that Blockchain network have been available since June 21.

Prior to this Tetherthe issuing company of USDT, announced in April that it would land its stablecoin famous on the network TON. At the time, the company also said it would bring its physical gold-backed token to that same network.

However, both have maintained ties and more recently have strengthened ties as Telegram seeks to integrate an entire ecosystem of cryptocurrencies and decentralized applications for its users.

In February, the messaging platform Telegram revealed plans to share advertising revenue with channel owners and pay rewards using Toncointhe native cryptocurrency of TON. Telegram had already adopted TON technology for other functions within the platform, and integrated the TON cryptocurrency wallet last year. TON.

Recently, the popularity of projects such as Notcoin (NOT), based on Telegramhave also given notoriety to the TON ecosystem. Notcoin made a much-anticipated airdrop last week that sent the price of its native token surging.

There are other similar games built on the blockchain TON as Hamster Kombat, Yescoin, Tapswap and PixelTapsome with intentions of launching their own versions to Telegram.
