Prosecutor calls for bank secrecy from Milei and his sister for the Libra case

Within the case of the Cryptocurrency Libra, federal prosecutor Eduardo Taiano asked justice to raise the bank secrecy of President of Argentina Javier Milei, and his sister, Karina Milei, general secretary of the Presidency.

Banking secrecy is a legal norm that protects the financial information of a person or company. Therefore, banks cannot disseminate data on accounts, movements, balances, loans or other financial operations of their customers.

However, this can be raised at the request of a prosecutor. In this case, The request was submitted to Judge María Romilda Servini.

Taiano’s disposition was made public thanks to the Kirchnerist leader Juan Grabois, who acts as a complainant in the case. It was he who announced it through the social network X.

In addition to Javier Milei and his sister Karina, the request also includes Hayden Davis – a key figure in the creation of Libra – Mauricio Novelli, Manuel Terrones Godoy and Sergio Morales. According to local sources, all are investigated by alleged abuse of authority, fraud, influence peddling and bribery.

Recently, The Federal Chamber of San Martín sent to the courts of Comodoro Py – The headquarters of the Federal Courts in Buenos Aires – the cause that, until then, was processed in San Isidro by Judge Sandra Arroyo Salgado. At the end of March, the magistrate had asked the Military House to information about the presence of Javier Milei in the Fifth of Olivos on February 17, in an attempt to strengthen his competence and retain the investigation in his jurisdiction.

In mid -March, lawyer Gregorio Dalbón submitted a request against Taian Due to the fear that Davis can flee and evade the authorities.

Judicial sources informed Argentine media that, among the measures requested by the prosecutor, reports are included in the Central Bank, the National Securities Commission (CNV), the General Inspection of Justice (IGJ) and companies such as Google. In addition, the cybercrime unit must identify the Internet domains of the companies involved in the commercialization of the bankrupt token.

With the Libra case, winning national and international impact, only a few days ago the Argentine Congress took a decisive step. After a tense session in the Chamber of Deputies, the opposition won 128 votes in favor to advance with the creation of an investigative commission, which aims to clarify the facts surrounding the scandal and its consequences. Likewise, the interpellation of several officials of the Executive Power was approved: the chief of Cabinet, Guillermo Francos; the Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo; and the president of the National Securities Commission, Roberto Silva.
