“Satoshi validated anonymity as a source”

Talking with Héctor Cárdenas about Bitcoin (BTC) and journalism is an infinite cascade of reflections. Profession engineer, but media lover and their informative dynamics, the bitcoiner never gives anything for granted, on the contrary, everything questions and explains why.

“Before the media were intermediaries between the facts and the people, but they ended up abusing the power of ‘I am credibility’. That was a mistake, that the traditional media assumed ‘I am the credible’, not the fact itself, and they reached the point of telling lies. People (realized) and now it is the people who are empowered to see things,” explained the Venezuelan.

For the director of cryptootics we live in a time in which the message that is transmitted is more valuable (even if it is anonymous or pseudonym) that the real identity of those who disseminate it. For Cárdenas this is a parallel with the creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto, whose invention transcends his own identity, but which, in the face of journalism, was a reporter challenge.

“When Bitcoin appears, where the content we all talk about (White Book) was left by a person who does not know who he is, already that person validated anonymity as a source, that is, I can say something that matters without saying my name. And this guy said something that matters so much that the world changed. No one knows who he is and if we know later, nobody will care.”

Journalism of the future will be unstoppable

Being a pioneer in the use of Bitcoin, Ulbricht is cataloged by Cárdenas as a brave one, a categorization that also gives the president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, making BTC become legal currency in his country, a reality that is far from how the first years of his approach with Bitcoin were, back in 2012.

“The word courage resonates me a lot in these times because we had been in fear of fear from the spheres of power. Not only governments, any sphere of power, everything was very oppressive. Bukele bravely faced a complicated criminal apparatus and won.”
