Sony will operate its own cryptocurrency exchange in Japan – DiarioBitcoin

Sony bought a cryptocurrency trading platform from the Amber Group company last year that it now plans to restart. A launch timeline was not disclosed.

Sonythe Japanese multinational technology and entertainment company, is making a move into cryptocurrencies.

The company that manufactures the PlayStation is preparing to open its own cryptocurrency exchange. Sony I had bought the platform Whalefin to the cryptocurrency lender Amber Group last year, and is now considering restarting that business, he said. The Block this Monday, citing a press release.

In the notice published in Japanese, the parent company of the cryptocurrency platform, Amber Japanannounced that it would change its name to S.BLOXThe statement added that the company had been acquired by Quetta Weba unit of Sonyin August 2023; although the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Sony The company did not reveal a launch timeline, but said that as part of its relaunch plans, it plans to improve the platform’s user interface design and launch a new, more user-friendly app. The company also plans to expand supported cryptocurrencies and features lateraccording to the report.

“As a member of the Sony Group, we will work to create new added value in cryptoasset trading services by collaborating with the various companies of the group”the statement details.

Amber Japanformerly known as DeCurret, was acquired by the cryptocurrency company Amber Group in 2022. Last year, Bloomberg reported that the Hong Kong-based company was planning to sell its Japan unit due to the country’s strict regulations, as recalled CoinDesk.

This is not the first foray of sony in the world of digital assets and Blockchain. Sony Network Communicationsthe conglomerate’s trading division, has partnered with Japanese blockchain firm, Startale Labs, in 2023 to build a network Blockchain public of Sony.

The external director of Startale will be responsible for leading the new cryptocurrency exchange Sonyas Sota Watanabe, founder and CEO of Startale Labsin x this Monday. No further details were provided.

The Japanese giant in the video game sector has also explored the area of tokens non-fungible for its video games, and previously filed a patent to make NFTs transferable between different games and consoles.
