South Africa suspends the entry of pork and other derivatives due to swine fever



South Africa has suspended the importation from all over Spain of fresh porkfrozen, cured, pork semen, porcine casings and porcine blood products produced after October 27 due to outbreaks of African swine fever detected in wild boars in the province of Barcelona.

The African country will not accept neither containers in transit with a production date after said October 27, according to the update note published by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA). It should be noted that South Africa buys pork products from Spain for a value close to 10 million euros annually (2024 data).

For the rest, they continue blocked more than 130 health certificates export to nearly 40 third countries; However, some relevant ones such as China and the United Kingdom have accepted regionalization, which is why they accept the entry of products as long as they do not come from the area affected by the outbreak.
