The Government is preparing fee increases for the self-employed of between 11 and 206 euros per month next year

The Government has proposed a new proposal for contribution brackets for self-employed workers that would imply an increase in fees of between 11 and 206 euros per month for next year. Some figures that, measured as a percentage, range between 3.8% and 35% depending on the volume of income. This is clear from the draft proposal that the Ministry of Social Security has transferred this Monday to the unions and representative organizations of the group.

The document presented to the social agents, to which you have had access Economic Informationforesees that The fees also continue to rise in 2027 and 2028as written in the pension reform designed by the former Minister of Social Security, José Luis Escrivá. The increases collected for 2027 and 2028 are similar to those expected for next year. In such a way, that In 2027 the quotas would be between 22 and 412.5 monthly euros higher than at present and in 2028, between 33 and 619 higher monthly euros.

The new proposal from the department headed by Elma Saiz takes into account until 2028, although it foresees that the increases will follow the same line in the period 2028-2031. The proposal is not definitive and is being debated among social agents. When the time comes, the Government must process the measure through the royal decree law, so would require a parliamentary majority which he has not been able to count on recently in labor matters.

Rejection from ATA

From ATA, the association of self-employed workers integrated into the large employers’ association CEOE, they see this approach as a “authentic saber” and they maintain that the Government “obviously ignores the reality that the self-employed are experiencing” and “lives in a bubble” when proposing the new amount brackets. This is how its president, Lorenzo Amor, expressed himself this Monday, calling for the political parties to “retract” if the proposal reaches Parliament.

The reform of the pension system introduced by former minister José Luis Escrivá provided for a progressive increase in the minimum contribution bases for the group (which translates into higher fees) with the idea of gradually bringing them closer to the real income of the self-employed. To achieve this, a system was designed with a total of 15 differentiated income brackets, each with its minimum contribution base.

The objective is that In 2031, all self-employed workers pay contributions to Social Security that reflect the actual income of your business. A measure with which the Government intends to reinforce income from social contributions to shore up the pension system and, at the same time, ensure that the self-employed obtain higher pensions for having contributed more.
