“Inside each Liux Big there are 550 meters of wiring and putting all that in a 2.7 meter car is not magic.” This is how the team led by entrepreneur Antonio Espinosa de los Monteros defines the ambitious project in which they have been involved for more than two years with the mission of launching an electric car ‘made in Spain’ on the market called to be the most sustainable in its category. We decipher the main unknowns surrounding its launch.
When will it go on the market?
As revealed by its CEO and co-founder in a recent interview with La Información Económica, Liux is preparing the supply chain with the aim of marketing the car in 2026. The startup hopes to overcome the 2,500 units assembled during the first full year. Currently, it has a waiting list on its website where there are already more than 2,000 requests.
What will be its price?
One of the keys to the Big will be its price. Although it was initially rumored that it would go on the market for around 20,000 euros, Liux has announced that the model will be launched for less than 18,000 eurosplacing itself in the low range within the universe of European electric cars. The company will announce the final price before the end of the year.
Where will it be manufactured?
Liux will announce the location of the factory in Novemberbut it states that it will be located in Spain and is in full assembly. Regarding its marketing, the car will go on sale in the Spanish market, but it is also closing agreements in Italy and France.
What is its design like?
The Big is a two-seater electric vehicle, conceived as a light urban quadricycle. Its body is articulated by a body made of recyclable flax fibercombining suitable resins and industrial procedures. The projected size -about 2.70 meters long by 1.50 wide– places it in a range close to that of microcars, designed to facilitate maneuverability in dense urban areas.
What benefits does it have?
Offers two battery versionsone of about 13 kWh and another of 19 kWh, which provide ranges of between 170 and 230 kilometerssufficient for daily urban mobility. His 15 kW electric motor (equivalent to about 20 HP) allows reaching a maximum speed of 90km/h. Furthermore, its recharge time ranges between 4 and 6 hours depending on battery capacity, using a standard household outlet.
Which clients are you targeting?
There are two main types: a single vehicle for a person who lives alone or for a small family that uses it on a daily basis, and the second family car, where there is a large car for traveling and another small one for daily use. Besides, can be driven from the age of 16.
Who is behind the project?
The project was founded in 2021 by Antonio Espinosa de los Monteros and David Sanchowith the aim of revolutionizing electric mobility, but recently, the company has reinforced its structure with the entry as a partner and investor of Othman Ktirifounder and CEO of OK Mobility, through OK Ventures. Who are your competitors?
Among the models with which the Liux Big would compete would be the Citroen Ami and Fiat Topolinoand Microlinoquadricycles of the L7e category (which groups light electric quadricycles) whose prices start, respectively, at 7,990 and 22,990 euros.
How much has Liux invested to date?
After taking a ‘turn’ with the Liux Animal, and leaving its debut on paper in the face of the complex environment that surrounds the sector, the company quantifies in about 12 million euros the investment committed to date in the project.
Will you launch new models on the market?
From Liux they claim to have several ideas, but no defined projects. Therefore, for the moment, the Big will be the only model in developmentat least until the company consolidates its industrial and commercial structure.
