This is the first operator to achieve the deployment of voice over 5G throughout Spain

Telephone has become the first operator in deploy voice over 5G VoNR (Voice over New Radio) throughout Spaintechnology that allows calls to be made through ‘fast’ 5G (Stand Alone 5GSA), taking advantage of the coverage that the operator already offers in more than 94% of the country.
VoNR technology provides superior voice quality, with greater quality, clarity and stability in voice connections. In addition, it allows you to make calls while simultaneously maintaining services that require a large amount of data, such as HD video, cloud gaming or critical professional applications, without interruptions or degradation of the connection.
Telefónica has already used voice over 5G in environments where it is especially useful, such as events with massive concentrations of people who usually use voice calls. It is also relevant for companies, since The voice is an important tool to communicate in this environment.
Telefónica’s VoNR service is available to Movistar customers with compatible 5G devices, without the need to change numbers or contract an additional specific plan. This availability will expand as new terminals are certified, which will facilitate the mass adoption of this technology in the coming months.
In order to achieve this milestone in the 5G network, the push carried out by Telefónica in the 5G SA network has been essential. It currently reaches more than 5,700 municipalities, either through the 700 MHz band, the 3,500 MHz band or both.
5G SA enhances the capabilities of 5G by using it throughout the network infrastructure, which facilitates the implementation of functionalities such as voice over 5G, Network Slicing or Edge Computing, which are of great relevance especially in sectors such as industry or logistics (ports or road transport) and in public services such as citizen services (Smart Cities).
Telefónica assures in a statement that with this launch, reinforces its commitment to innovation and the development of the 5G ecosystem in Spain by continuing to expand the capacities of a quality network, with high performance and growing capillarity.
