Former President Donald Trump is not the only US politician campaigning to accept cryptocurrency donations.

Republican Senator Marsha Blackburn has echoed this measure and has announced that she will begin accepting Bitcoin and other digital currencies as a donation mechanism for his re-election campaign.

In a press release, the American businesswoman and politician who serves as a senator for the state of Tennessee, presented a new website for cryptocurrency donations. In addition to Bitcointhe platform accepts assets such as Ethereum, Dogecoin and Litecoin. It is driven by the digital currency payment company BitPay.

Our campaign is committed to meeting supporters where they are.“said Senator Blackburn. As a growing number of Americans use digital currencies for everyday transactions, we are excited to take the next step and stay at the forefront of the 21st century digital world.”.

The move comes amid a broader movement among U.S. politicians to back cryptocurrencies as the asset class becomes a central issue in the presidential election.

A few weeks ago, Trump announced that he would incorporate cryptocurrencies as a donation mechanism to finance his campaign for the US presidency. This decision came after a positive turn in the Republican’s stance on cryptocurrencies and a series of promises to support the industry if he is re-elected to office in November.

Blackburn has shown her support for the asset class in the past. She recently chaired a Republican National Committee panel that approved a draft of the party’s platform that includes a pledge to “defend the right to mine Bitcoin” and protect self-custody of digital assets.

Also, previously, in an interview with Bitcoin Magazinehad identified the aspects of freedom and privacy as “very good things” of the flagship cryptocurrency and had spoken out against central bank digital currencies (CBDC), saying they are spy tools for the government to use against its citizens.

Republican Senator Cynthia Lummis, who has also defended Bitcoin and has made efforts to introduce progressive cryptocurrency legislation, publicly expressed his support for Blackburn.

The growing acceptance of cryptocurrencies in the American political sphere is not limited to campaign donations. Congressman Matt Gaetz recently introduced a bill that would allow federal income tax payments to be made in Bitcoinand there have been various legislative proposals on the subject in recent months.
