Catalan ranchers ask for a national plan against the “lack of control” of wild fauna after the outbreak of swine fever in Barcelona

Catalan ranchers have reported that for years they have been asking for the “eradication and control” of wild and hunting fauna that exists in Catalonia. They assure that it is “runaway and uncontrolled” and that the appearance of the outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) in Collserola (Barcelona) is one of the consequences of this proliferation.

That is why they demand from the Government a national plan for this purpose and especially focused on wild boar, to reduce the health risk and minimize the impact on the field. This is what he assured 20 minutes the president of Asaja Catalunya, Pere Roquéwho has warned that “if we do not act quickly” there will be consequences both “at a productive level and at an economic level” affecting all agri-food production in Spain.

The appearance of this outbreak, the first in 31 years, has already caused the first problems. Some countries such as China have announced the suspension of exports of 12 Catalan companies, while Taiwan, Mexico or Japan They have completely blocked imports of Spanish pork. This means, explains Roqué, that “all the pigs that had to go to China from this province will automatically stay here in the national market.”

Thus, farmers ask “clear regulation” and minimizing economic damage that will generate the appearance of these cases in pig plantations. Furthermore, they hope that “with the help of the UME and the security forces of Catalonia, the outbreak in Collserola can be solved and paralyzed”, since otherwise, if it spread to other provinces, they warn that It would be “a serious crisis.”
