This was the case of the legendary heavy metal band, Metallica, who saw their X account compromised by unknown attackers, who took the opportunity to publish messages alluding to the false marketing of an alleged cryptocurrency apparently by the musical group.

According to several reports, the attackers circulated several messages reporting an association between Metallica and Ticketmaster for the commercialization of the token METAL, a digital currency that would have been issued on the internet Solarium. However, the communications redirected to the site Pump.fun, which has nothing to do with any of the aforementioned entities.

Among those who warned about the ongoing scam was the president of MoonPay, Keith Grossman, who denied that the company was related to the marketing of said tokens, since they were mentioned in some of the messages published by the attackers.

Subsequently, those responsible for the account Metallica They regained access to X’s profile and deleted the posts, although network data reveals that several people apparently fell for the scam. The token METAL It experienced a considerable increase, but once the misleading offer was alerted, it plummeted sharply.

Something similar recently happened with the account of the legendary rapper 50 Cent, where the attackers promoted a cryptocurrency meme called “GUNIT”, project also based on Solarium with which the rapper denied any type of link or association.

Another celebrity who was a victim of something similar was actor Tom Holland, whose account was used to promote a fake token inspired by the superhero Spider-Man.

Many of these cases involve tokens issued on the Solana network, which goes hand in hand with a report published by the security firm Blockchain, Blockaidwhich alleges that at least 50% of pre-sales of new tokens in said ecosystem are basically fraudulent offers.
