Sánchez discusses with the new CEO of Renault the Government’s support for the automobile industry



The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, claimed this Tuesday the “resolute” support of the Executive to the automobile sector in his first meeting with the new CEO of the Renault Group, François Provost, in office since August.

As explained by Moncloa in a note, Sánchez has insisted that the Perte of the electric and connected vehicle, which now has its fourth call, is helping to expand capabilities productive in existing plants and to reconvert production lines to continue innovating.

At the meeting, which was also attended by the Minister of Industry, Jordi Hereu, and the president of Renault Spain, Josep María Recasens, Sánchez and Hereu defended that Spain “is promoting at the European level digital and energy transformation as great vectors of modernization and transformation of the industry”.

Likewise, they have highlighted “the leadership of Spain in the commitment to electric, connected and sustainable mobility” and the progress towards “technological sovereignty” in Spain and Europe.

For his part, Provost has explained the industrial plans of the groupwhich has had a factory in Valladolid since 1972, a bodywork and assembly factory in Palencia since 1978 and a refactory in Seville, specialized in the manufacture of gearboxes.

Provost, who has been at Renault for 23 years, has in recent years been the right-hand man of his predecessor, Luca de Meo, who announced in July his departure to lead the French luxury company Kering. The new CEO counts among his priorities the expansion of the group in Latin America and Indiaas explained in a recent conference.

For its part, Moncloa has stressed that the national automobile market has accumulated fourteen consecutive months of growth, after closing October with an increase of 16% and almost 100,000 new registrations, according to the latest data from the Anfac, Faconauto and Ganvam associations.
