Telefónica faces the second round of the ERE with the subsidiaries that make up 10% of its workforce in Spain

Telefónica faces the second meeting of the negotiation of the employment regulation file (ERE) after having revealed its cards in the three main companies of the related company agreement -Telefónica España, Móviles y Soluciones- and Movistar+ with an initial proposal of 5,319 departures, around 20% of its workforce in Spain. This Tuesday it will be the turn of two subsidiaries, Telefonica Global Solutions and Telefónica Digital Innovationand the matrix, Telefónica SAwho will constitute the negotiating tables to know the second dossier of the adjustment.
It so happens that on this occasion, unlike previous adjustments, the ERE will also be applied to the workforce of the parent company itself, where the greatest impact of the proposal is expected that the company will put on the unions’ table in this second round. Around 1,100 employees of the corporate core depend on it, according to the balance for fiscal year 2024 deposited in the commercial registry.
The other two subsidiaries are part of companies that were established during the previous management stage led by José María Álvarez-Pallete. The first, Global Solutions, was launched in 2020 to boost its international business by channeling its wholesale, roaming and multinational business; It had a workforce of more than 600 workers at the end of the last financial year.
The second, Digital Innovation, was born in 2023 by the group’s former Chief Digital Officer (CDO), Chema Alonso, to simplify its structure with the merger of two internal services technology companies, Telefónica I+D and Telefónica Digital; According to the latest balance sheet, the workforce is around 1,000 people. With these data, the workers of the three companies that make up the second round of negotiations They are approaching 2,700 workersrepresentatives of just over a tenth of the 25,000 people that ‘teleco’ employs in Spain.
As has been developed in the previous negotiations, once the first adjustment has been proposed for the three remaining companies A calendar will be established with a foreseeable period of one month. In the case of the three main subsidiaries, the agenda points to next Wednesday as the second contact for the negotiation. It will be then that the unions put their proposals on the table after having studied the details of the dossier that the Oliver Wyman cabinet is preparing.
At the union level, workers have the representation of UGT, CCOO and Sumados-Fetico and the three organizations have already publicly expressed their positions on the first file raised. Among their demands is the proposal to extend the agreement until 2030 to extend the labor improvements agreed upon in previous negotiations, whose economic conditions are also seen favorably in this process.
As a reference, the last ERE ended with the departure of 3,420 employees at an approximate cost of 1,300 million euros before taxes and an average compensation of about 380,000 euros per person. In the financial chapter, the file that is proposed in two batches is part of the efficiency plan that Telefónica presented at the beginning of the month and which contemplates cost savings of around 3,000 million euros by 2030 (2,300 million euros by 2028), figures that include items linked to personnel.
