Monthly spending on retirement pensions exceeds 10 billion for the first time and the total disbursement marks a record



Spending on retirement pensions reached 10,032.7 million euros in November and for the first time it surpasses the barrier of 10,000 millionin a context marked by its revaluation according to the CPI and by the increase in pensioners with the gradual retirement of the ‘baby boom’ generation. This month, Social Security has dedicated a record figure of 13,720 million to contributory pensions, 6% more than in the same month last year. Added to this amount is the extra pay, to the disbursement of which it has dedicated almost 13.4 billion.

There are 27,120 million total disbursement, compared to 25,500 million a year ago, according to figures published this Tuesday by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration. Unlike what happens with the majority of workers, pensioners They collect extra pay in November and not in December because the system takes into account the right generation period from June 1 to November 30. In the case of the extraordinary summer payment, it is counted from December 1 to May 31 and is collected in June.

The average retirement pension, which nearly 6.5 million people receive, stood at 1,511.51 euros per month, 4.3% more than in the same month of 2024 after the revaluation applied since the beginning of the year. Meanwhile, the system’s average pension, which includes the different types of pension (retirement, permanent disability, widowhood, orphanhood and for family members), increases by 4.4% year-on-year to 1,316.7 euros per month. The average extra pay for pensioners this November amounts to 1,288.1 euros.

According to the data published this Tuesday by the Department headed by Elma Saiz, this November, just over 10.42 million contributory pensions have been paid, 1.5% more than a year ago, to more than 9.4 million pensioners, a figure that is also 1.5% higher than that of November of last year.
