Telefónica hires the former president of the PNV Andoni Ortuzar for the board of Movistar+

Telephone has signed the former president of the PNV Andoni Ortuzar and Marcos Contreras -an independent member of the highest decision-making body of CriteriaCaixa, one of the largest shareholders of the telecom company- for the board of directors of Movistar+, according to the Basque newspaper ‘El Correo’.

Ortuzar presided over the PNV between the beginning of 2013 and last March and has a degree in Information Sciences from the University of the Basque Country.

After a period linked to journalism, public communication and institutional management, assumed responsibilities in the Basque Government in areas of communication and foreign action to later direct EiTB – the Vacanic public radio television – and hold executive management positions at EAJ-PNV.

According to the sources consulted, its incorporation will strengthen public dialogue, the institutional relationship and the “strategic” reading of the audiovisual regulatory environment.

As to Contreras has a degree in Law from the University of Seville and has been part of the board of directors of CriteriaCaixa – which owns almost 10% of the Telefónica group – since 2012, although his career began with management and executive positions in the highest decision-making body of the Vimac group of companies, dedicated to the construction of infrastructure and civil works.

After that stage it was executive vice president of the defunct Cajasol Business Corporationwhich concentrated and managed the corporate investments and non-strictly financial commercial activities of the former Cajasol savings bank.

In addition, he joined the board of directors of Banca Cívica in 2011 and has been part of the boards of Caser Seguros, Deóleo and the European Bank of Finance, although He is currently a member of the highest decision-making bodies of Hidralia and Cetursa Sierra Nevada.to which is added the presidency of the council of the Spanish Association of Directors in Andalusia.

With these two signings, Movistar+ incorporates two members with financial and institutional skills into its governing body to “expand your capacity for analysis, anticipation and decision making”the sources have highlighted.

Other movements: Clivillé by Pascual

In this context, it is worth remembering that the Official Gazette of the Mercantile Registry (BORME) at the beginning of this month included the signing of Daniel Clivillé to the Movistar+ boarda manager with whom the president of the teleco, Marc Murtra, has coincided in several companies.

Specifically, Clivillé has replaced Veronica Pascual on the board of directors of Telefónica Audiovisual Digital, the subsidiary of the group that manages Movistar+.

Murtra coincided with the Catalan executive at the Barcelona sustainable parcel company Karibou, whose board of directors It was chaired by Clivillé between December 2023 and this past November and of which the current president of Telefónica was a part in a similar period (he entered in 2023 and left in the middle of this year).

In addition to Karibou, Murtra and Clivillé’s professional careers also crossed at the financial advisory firm specializing in corporate operations Create Investment. Murtra was managing partner of Crea Inversión between 2016 and 2019 (between 2011 and 2016 he was a partner), while Clivillé has been a partner of the advisory firm since May 2017.

Almost total renovation

The board of directors of Telefónica Audiovisual Digital has been almost completely renewed this year, given that except María Yolanda Barcina Angulo (appointed in July 2016) and Rosauro Varo (seated since July 2023)the rest of the members of the subsidiary’s highest decision-making body have been appointed in 2025.

In fact, the most important change that has been made to the board of directors of Movistar+ since the arrival of Marc Murtra to the presidency of Telefónica in mid-January of this year has been the appointment of Javier de Paz as president of the body at the beginning of last March, when he replaced Sergio Oslé (who will soon take over as the new executive president of Mediapro).

Another of the changes implemented in the management structure of Movistar+ since Murtra’s arrival at Telefónica was the appointment of Daniel Domenjó as CEO of Movistar+a position in which she replaced Cristina Burzako, who has recently signed for the American fund Providence, where she will lead the investment firm’s sports and well-being vertical.
