The affiliation of foreigners exceeds 3.1 million employed people for the first time and grows especially in the transport sector

The total number of foreign workers affiliated with Social Security For the first time this month, October surpassed 3.1 million marking the maximum of the seriesafter adding 13,159 new jobs in the month. According to data provided this Friday by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, the number of workers from other countries reached 3,101,500 on average in October, after adding 206,871 in the last year, which represents a growth of 7.2% year-on-year, almost five points above the membership as a whole. On average, the number of foreign affiliates already represents 14.2% of the total.
Of the jobs created in October, The progress was greater among menwith 11,218 new members, up to 1.76 million, while among women, 1,939 members were added, up to 1.33 million.
By occupation, 83.9% of foreign affiliates fall under the general Social Security regime, with 2,601,143 workers. In the month of October, foreign affiliates have a particularly relevant weight in the Hospitalitywhere they account for one in three employees (29.2% of affiliates), but also in Agriculture (25.4%), Construction (23%) and both in Administrative Activities and in Transport, where almost 18% of the workers are.
As an indicator of the diversification of occupations by the group, its growth can be seen in more and more sectors. Among the activities with the greatest presence of foreign workers, Transportation stands out, where has grown by 32.9% its presence in the last year, Water Supply (14.7%), Construction, (12.5%), Agriculture (10.5%) and Manufacturing Industry (9.2%), Financial Activities (8.7%), Public Administration (8.5%), Health Activities (7.8%), Commerce (7.6%), and Administrative Activities and Auxiliary Services (7.5%).
Social Security also highlights that, since 2019, foreign employment in highly qualified occupations has grown by 30%. According to MISSI data, “the sectors with the most added value such as Financial Activities (8.7%), Information and Communications (5.9%) and Professional and Scientific-Technical Activities (5.5%) are growing significantly.”
According to the country of origin of the workers, Morocco, with 365,089 contributors, is the one that contributes the most workers, followed by Romania (340,449) and Colombia (251,084).
Record growth of foreign self-employed
As for the self-employedthe affiliation of self-employed workers from other countries also marked a new high in October after adding 3,529 and reaching 494,246 people, 6.6% more than a year ago. “Its growth is well above the average for all affiliates, whose growth has been 1.1%,” they add.

In the last year, the number of foreign self-employed workers has increased by 27% in Information and Communications, in Energy Supply, 23.6%, 18.8% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities and 13.8% in Financial and Insurance Activities
“The CES report reminded us this week that Spain will need 2.4 million jobs in the next decade to maintain its productive level. Workers from other countries will be decisive in responding to this challenge and guaranteeing a future of shared prosperity, cohesion and social justice,” the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz, highlighted in a note.
