The most efficient Bitcoin miners in history will arrive at the end of 2024

Bitcoin mining company Bitdeer, which recently entered the ASIC equipment development race and is already competing with major manufacturers, announced the roadmap for its next generation of devices. The company indicated that the third generation of chips specialized in mining the main cryptocurrency on the market will be among the most efficient in the industry.

According to the statement from Bitdeer, a company led by Jihan Wu, co-founder of the main mining equipment manufacturer Bitmain, the company estimates that two new generations of its ASIC devices will hit the market in the coming months. In March, the company entered this branch of the industry with the SEALMINER A1, which has a 4nm chip, the SEAL01, which offers an efficiency of 18.1 J/TH, as reported by CriptoNoticas.

The roadmap published by the company indicates that the second generation of ASIC equipment will be ready between the third and fourth quarter of the year. The first of these models is the SEAL02, which will offer an efficiency of 14 J/TH and would be ready in the coming months. The other chip awaiting production for this year is the SEAL03, which would reach an energy efficiency of 10 J/TH, which would put it at the forefront of this type of devices that compete to offer higher performance with a lower energy cost.

Bitdeer’s plan will be complete by mid-2025 (second quarter), when they estimate the SEAL04 model will enter production. This device would be the most efficient ASIC ever built if it achieves the estimated efficiency of just 5 J/TH.

To get an idea of what this represents, it can be noted that Bitmain’s most efficient model, the S21 Pro, currently offers an efficiency of 15 J/TH.

Energy efficiency in Bitcoin mining refers to the amount of electrical energy used to mine bitcoins. It is measured in joules per terahash (J/TH), where a terahash is a unit of measurement of processing power. The lower the J/TH number, the more efficient the mining will be.

The battle to build more efficient mining equipment is not only about reducing the cost of producing or obtaining bitcoin, but also about the demands of a market that has become more rigorous every day regarding the use of resources and environmental conservation. A lower use of electrical energy by each of these devices can have a great impact on the measures that many companies seek to reduce their environmental impact.

A great acquisition to manufacture ASIC chips

This launch is not the only move by Bitdeer, a company that seeks to position itself among large companies such as Bitmain and MicroBT. An announcement in recent days revealed the company’s acquisition of chip designer Desiweminer for $140 million. This company is recognized for the development of 4nm chips that are already a benchmark in the industry.

“Desiweminer’s notable achievements in ASIC design and proven track record, with nearly 30,000 high-performance machines on the market, make them one of the leading ASIC design groups in the world,” said Linghui Kong, Head of Bitdeer trading operations.

With this acquisition, an investment of USD 100 million from the Tether company and the consolidation of its agreements with TSMC, one of the largest semiconductor chip manufacturers in the world, Bitdeer is positioned among the most promising companies in the Bitcoin mining industry.
