The spending of Spanish households on telecommunications packages decreases



Spanish households are making lower outlays this year than the previous one in multiple telecommunications packages, both in telephony and broadband and in those that also include pay television. According to the last ‘CNMC Household Panel’, Quad packages (fixed and mobile telephony, fixed and mobile broadband and fixed access) cost 39.2 euros on average per household in the second quarter of this year, less than the 42.1 euros in the same period of 2024.

The quintuple packages (with pay television too) They drop to 78.4 euros compared to 80.3 euros in April-June of last yearwhich marked the highest price in a second quarter since 2022.

Besides, The Competition report reflects that fixed telephony continues to lose customers: Only 65% ​​of households had this service at the end of June, 3.8 points less year-on-year.

In contrast, mobile telephony reached practically all homes (99.5%) and Internet access stood at 95.2%. Fixed broadband was available in 88.9% of homes.

Regarding the frequency of use of traditional and OTT communication services, three out of four individuals reported sending several instant messages a day using applications such as WhatsApp. Besides, one in three (32%) used these services several times a day to send voice notes.

32% of individuals made several calls a day using a mobile phone and another 32% made them almost every day. Two out of three (67%) said they did not send any SMS by mobile phone and 57% did not call by landline.

Regarding calls or video calls made over the Internet with applications such as WhatsApp, 44.5% declared doing them at least once a week.

Most are satisfied with the speed of their connection

On the other hand, two out of three (65.9%) households with fixed broadband were satisfied or very satisfied with the connection speed of this service. Customers who were little or not at all satisfied remained at 11.4%. As far as coverage is concerned, 62.9% were happy or very happy, but 17.6% said they were not at all satisfied or not very satisfied.

In this panel, the CNMC has also asked about Internet access problems in your municipality of residence. Almost half (46%) recognize these difficulties, although only rarely. 20.6% suffer from them “from time to time” and 7.3% frequently. One in four (25.7%) never experience problems.
