The wealth of Spanish billionaires skyrocketed by more than 21% in the last year

Spanish billionaires saw their fortunes increase by 21.5% in 2025, up to 213.1 billion dollars (182,602 million euros), while eight more people acquired the status of ultra-rich, raising the figure to 32. According to the latest edition of the ‘Billionaire Ambitions 2025’ report by UBS, the richest Spaniards added 11.6 billion dollars (9.94 billion euros) to national wealth driven by the performance of some of the country’s leading businessmen and a greater concentration of family assets.
It should be noted, specifically, that the assets of Amancio Ortega grew by 21,000 million dollars (17,995 million euros), to 124,000 million dollars (106,254 million euros). This amount is equivalent to 58.2% of the total wealth of Spain’s billionaires. UBS has warned that the more than 162,000 million dollars (138,815 million euros) in wealth transfers planned over the next 15 years in Spain focus on the need to reinforce long-term planning, family governance and discipline in succession processes.
In a context of increasingly international families and more complex assets, The entity has indicated that the challenge for the great fortunes Spanish involves combining the preservation of legacy with the empowerment of the next generation and greater attention to the social impact of billionaires. The number of billionaires grew by 8.8%, from 2,682 to 2,919, with 196 new self-made billionaires and 91 heirs receiving altogether a record of 297.8 billion dollars (255,180 million euros). On the investment front, North America remains the main destination for billionaires (63%), followed by Western Europe (40%) and China (34%), while 42% plan to increase their exposure to emerging market stocks within a year.
Large assets also plan to increase their weight in private capital, hedge funds and infrastructure, while they have mentioned tariffs (66%), the great geopolitical conflicts (63%) and political uncertainty (59%) as the main risks in 2026.
