These are the three sectors with the most demand

The good performance of commerce, hospitality and transport will boost employment, with more than 127,000 additions to the labor market, during the Christmas campaign, which start with him Black Friday and goes until the January salesaccording to the forecasts of the placement agencies.

The employers’ association of employment agencies and temporary work companies Asempleo estimates that in the near future 127,000 people will join the labor market, 2% more than last yearthanks above all to the sectors linked to electronic commerce and delivery services.

In total, 993,000 supply contracts will be formalized between November and January, 2.3% more, to respond to “rotation and the specific needs of companieswith the signing of more than 600,000 initial contracts managed by temporary employment agencies (ETT). Commerce, hospitality and transport activities will thus absorb around 40% of these season hires.

From Asempleo they explain that the recovery of internal demand and the increase in electronic purchases will encourage many of these contracts to be extended until January, so that three out of ten temporary workers will be able to keep their job once the campaign ends.

“There is an anticipation of spending and, therefore, of hiring, purchases begin earlier and companies reinforce staff,” explains the president of Asempleo, Andreu Cruañas, who, despite the good progress in employment, believes that a certain “containment” can be seen in consumption.

Cruañas also points out the problem of positions that remain vacant, as well as the high rates of youth unemployment and long-term unemployment, especially among those over 55 years of age, and anticipates a 2026 in which these problems may increase in a context of moderation in GDP and employment. “The year is going to end with important employment figures, but the structural problems of the labor market cannot be ignored,” he adds.

Drivers, packers and customer service

For Adecco, the Christmas campaign aims for a growth of 5% with close to one million temporary hires between November 2025 and January 2026, explains the commercial director of Adecco Staffing, Juan Francisco Rodríguez. The sectors that increase their workforce the most will be, as usual, transportation and logistics (which will accumulate around 25% of those million hires), hospitality (approaching 10%) and trade (between 5% and 8%).

Regarding profiles, logistics companies demand packers, forklift drivers, warehouse workers and transporters; as well as profiles to serve customers due to the rise of electronic commerce. The commerce sector, for its part, will reinforce its staff with employees, promoters and commercial profilesin which “close treatment of the client and their communication skills” prevail, as well as digital skills.

For Randstad, the employment created in the coming holidays will be maintained compared to last year around 110,830 incorporations, a stability that is explained because many companies resort to calling in existing discontinuous permanent positions. By sectors, 59.3% of contracts will be signed in transportation and logistics, with 65,700, 6.8% less; while the rest will focus on commerce, with 45,100 jobs and growth of 12.1% year-on-year.

By regions, Catalonia is the region that once again leads the volume of employmentwith 19,680; followed by Andalusia (18,680) and Madrid (18,180); although Navarra, Asturias and Castilla-La Mancha are the ones that increased their data the most compared to last year, according to Randstad.
