These towns in Spain pay you to live in them: know the best incentives



In Spain, rural depopulation is a problem that affects many towns and small towns, especially in communities such as Castilla y León, La Rioja and Navarra. To stop this trend and attract new inhabitants, many local and regional administrations have implemented financial aid aimed at families and young people who move to these areas. Aid in Castilla y León

In Castilla y León, for example, they have established aid of up to 2,000 euros for families who change their residence to municipalities with less than 20,000 inhabitants, according to Fotocasa. The deadline to apply for this subsidy starts counting from the date of registration in the community and can be processed in the corresponding housing departments.

For its part, the Provincial Council of Valladolid has launched the program Young Housing 2025, aimed at people between 18 and 36 years old who wish to build, rehabilitate, rent or buy housing in towns with less than 20,000 inhabitants. The plan has a total budget of 600,000 euros and includes different lines of help: construction or rehabilitation, mortgage, rental and renovations without a technical project.

The maximum amount can reach 4,000 euros, depending on the type of subsidy and the size of the municipality. In addition, limits are established income of up to 33,600 euros per year for applicants, which ensures that aid goes to those who really need financial support to settle in these rural areas. Applications are managed through the Provincial Council’s Electronic Headquarters, and the program will remain active until the end of 2025.

Subsidies for La Rioja

In La Rioja, the Revive Plan seeks to facilitate young people under 45 years of age to access housing in towns with less than 5,000 inhabitants. Aid can range from 20,000 and 40,000 eurosdepending on the size of the municipality: up to 40,000 euros in towns with less than 500 inhabitants and 30,000 euros in towns with up to 5,000 inhabitants.

To access the subsidy, the purchased home must become habitual residence of the beneficiary for at least five years and must be occupied within a maximum period of three months after purchase. This program demonstrates La Rioja’s commitment to attracting a young population and promoting the vitality of its rural municipalities.

Incentives in Navarra

Navarra has also developed incentives for the purchase of second-hand homes in towns with up to 20,000 inhabitants. Applicants must be under 35 years of age and meet certain price per square meter limits, allowing homes of up to approximately 153,000 euros are eligible. The amount of the subsidy varies depending on the income of the cohabitation unit, with percentages ranging between 7% and 16% of the purchase price.

In this way, Navarra combines criteria of age, size of the municipality and economic capacity of the applicants to ensure that aid reaches those who really seek to settle in rural areas.
