VITALIK BUTERIN warns of risks in the institutional adoption of Ethereum

Corporate treasury have accumulated 3 million Ethher (ETH), the Ethereum cryptocurrency, in the hands of 67 entities, including public companies, DAO, foundations and governments, marking an increase of 2,500% since April, when the holdings added 112,960 eth. This boom reflects the growing interest of Wall Street in the cryptoactive as a value reserve.

The interest in ETH is largely due to the annual 3% yields offered by staking, as cryptootics reported. This has motivated companies to Issue debt through shares or convertible bonds to finance eth purchaseswithout depending on operational income.

Vitalik Buterin, co -founder of Ethereum, values this institutional adoption and expressed it in an interview yesterday, August 7, highlighting that “the social aspect of coordinating around ETH as an asset that companies can have as part of their treasury is something good and valuable”.

Nevertheless, BUTERIN alert about the dangers of excess leverage. He explains that, in three years the treasury caused a fall of ETH, his assumption about why “it would basically be that, in some way, it became a game with excessive leverage.”

This refers to what Companies could borrow too much to buy ethwhich, before a pronounced fall, would trigger forced settlements, climbing to decreases of 50%, 70%or even 90%, aggravated by a loss of credibility. He adds that the actors of the Ethereum ecosystem are responsible, and underlines: “We are not talking about Do Kwon followers”, referring to the South Korean entrepreneur indicated as responsible for the collapse of the Token Luna and the Stablecoin anchored to the Terrausd dollar (UST).

Buterin warns: “As long as the leverage does not become too high and these things do not begin to enter that type of mechanics,” the system can remain solid.
