Yolanda Díaz agrees to extend death leave to ten days only with the unions

The Ministry of Labor has agreed with UGT and CCOO to extend mourning leave for the death of family members from two to ten working days. This was announced this Monday by the Secretary of State for Labor, Joaquín Pérez Rey, after meeting with the unions to outline the details of the proposal launched by the second vice president, Yolanda Díaz, in October.

“We have reached an agreement to begin the processing of this decisive rule for the workers of our country,” said Díaz’s ‘number two’ in the ministry. “After this meeting and thanks to the fact that the union organizations have risen to the occasion, we will take a giant step towards being a civilized country in labor relations,” he added.

The pact also includes the creation of a new paid leave for accompanying family members in palliative care and another one-day leave to accompany people who receive euthanasia. The agreement was reached without the support of the employers’ association, which left the negotiating table several days ago.
