Amazon will reduce layoffs in Barcelona to 791 people after an agreement with the unions

Amazon will reduce layoffs in its Barcelona subsidiary from the 978 people initially proposed in the Employment Regulation File (ERE).) up to 791 layoffs set after reaching an understanding with the unions, according to sources from the Workers’ Commissions consulted by ‘The Information’ which is the majority in the subsidiary of the American giant Amazon Spain Services. The agreement provides for compensation of 38 days per year worked with a limit of 24 monthly payments and a minimum compensation of 7,000 euros. In addition, those affected by the ERE will maintain their health insurance until May 31.

Excluded from the layoffs are pregnant women and those workers who are in the middle of a maternity leave. The sources consulted assure that the agreement requires studying possibilities of relocation of the affected employee. In addition, they add the collection of the company’s shares corresponding to February remains and establishes 1,500 euros of compensation, for people whose visa to reside in Spain depends on their employment contract. To reach the number of 791 dismissals in this ERE, voluntariness and relocations will be promoted.

The agreement specifies part of the maximum adjustment of up to 1,200 workers in Spain that Amazon had raised at the end of October and that has been focusing on the Barcelona and Madrid offices of the aforementioned Amazon Spain Services and in Amazon Digital Spain, the latter subsidiary based in the capital of Spain. Company sources assured at that time that the adjustments “do not impact operations.” Amazon employs a total of 28,000 people in Spain and, worldwide, 1.5 million, of which around 350,000 are dedicated to corporate work. This last group has been the target of these adjustments.
