“I came from China fucking worried, now I understand why we are broke”

The Catalan businessman Jose Eliasfounder of the La Sirena group, among other businesses, is one of the most viral voices when it comes to talking about the economy. His vision of the world usually takes up space in podcasts and YouTube videos, and he also leaves his pearls on his X profile (formerly Twitter).
This Wednesday, the millionaire recounts details of his last business trip: “I come from China fucking worried. Now I understand why we are broke. They tell us that here we are in the best moment. But my feeling when I return from China is that we are dead.”
“In Spain we no longer have production capacity. Take a look around any industrial estate. Before, they manufactured thingss. Now, you only see stores and restaurants“says the Badalona businessman.
Elías, 49, says in his post that “we have become accustomed to buying everything outside and that is taking a very expensive toll on us.”
For the Catalan businessman, “the problem is the trades: The turners and millers are more than 50 years old. In ten years, no one will know how to make a mold or a matrix. When that generation retires, it’s over,” he says.
“We have become a totally dependent country. We only produce here what expires quickly. Like strawberries, because there is no time to bring them by boat. For everything else, we depend on China“, he continues in his analysis.
“They have the technology, cell phones and computers. And they are delighted that we are this dependent,” says the founder of the La Sirena group in his publication.
For José Elías, the solution is clear: “We have to preserve our manufacturing capacity. Because a country that produces nothing is a country without a future. Even though they tell us that we are doing well.”
