Ignacio Galán, president of Iberdrola, awarded the 2025 International Energy Prize in Qatar

The president of Iberdrola, Ignacio Sánchez Galanhas received the International Energy Award 2025, in the category Lifetime Achievement for the Advancement of Renewablesawarded the International Foundation for Energy & Sustainable Developmentfounded by the former Deputy Prime Minister and former Minister of Energy and Industry of Qatar, Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah.
With this prestigious award, at a ceremony held in Doha, the foundation recognizes Galán’s “visionary leadership” and “his decisive role in the evolution of the industry towards cleaner, more innovative and efficient models throughout his professional career,” the company reported.
Specifically, the jury highlighted the manager’s ability to anticipate the challenges and opportunities of the sectorfoster international collaboration and alliances and maintain a firm commitment to sustainability.
In his acceptance speech before company executives, ministers and ambassadors, Galán expressed his gratitude for an honor that unites him “with a select group of people distinguished with this international award.” and that he receives “in a country as special” for him as Qatar.
For more than two decades, Galán has led Iberdrola, a company that has become the leading European electricity company by market capitalization and one of the two largest in the world, with presence in key markets such as the United Kingdom, the United States, Brazil, Spain, France, Germany and Australia.
Along with Galán, this year other personalities have also been awarded, such as Steven Chu, Nobel Prize winner in Physics in 1997, and Haitham Al-Ghais, Secretary General of OPEC.
Since 2013, these awards have recognized the professional excellence of people who have made outstanding contributions to the global energy industry. Among those awarded in previous editions are the executive director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), Fatih Birol; the former secretary general of OPEC, Abdalla Salem El-Badri, or the former Prime Minister of Qatar, Sheikh Khalid Bin Khalifa Al-Thani.
