Indra exhibits its military potential to Zelensky in search of supplying combat radars to Ukraine

This Tuesday, Volodymyr Zelensky’s European tour took the Ukrainian leader to the Indra headquarters in Madrid, where he met with more than a dozen Spanish companies in the defense industry after visiting the Congress of Deputies. According to industry sources, the meeting has served Indra to showcase its cutting-edge military technologies in order to promote possible agreements such as those made by the Ukrainian president during his visit to France with the purchase of 100 Rafale fighters manufactured by the French company Dassault.

Within the framework of its strategic shift towards defense, Indra has taken advantage of this formal event to present Zelensky with the most advanced defense systems in its catalogue. According to the sources consulted, among the services exhibited, the LTR-25 tactical air surveillance radar that is already used by the Spanish Air Force or the C-UAS Arachnethe anti-drone system that it develops together with E&ME and recently supplied to Defense. He has also had the opportunity to present the Nemus UGVa radar to protect combat tanks, and the ODIN-I, a modular multi-effect system, with remotely controlled weapons station.

It should be emphasized that Indra has already been present in the Ukrainian market for more than a decadewith the signing of contracts for air traffic management. Furthermore, last June a delegation from the firm chaired by Ángel Escribano traveled to kyiv with the purpose of exploring opportunities for collaboration in defense and the subsequent reconstruction of key infrastructures in the country.

Zelensky’s visit to Spain, the third since the war with Russia began, coincides with his needs to secure more military support in the face of the Russian offensive, which has intensified in recent weeks. He attended his meeting with companies in the sector accompanied by the Minister of Defense, Margaret Robles and the Secretary of State for Defense, Amparo Valcarce. Among the firms were representatives of Archimea, EM&E, Oesia Group, Sener, Marine Instruments, Install, GMV, Destiny either Urovesa.

“Advanced radars, drone technologies, essential equipment: all this means better protection of lives,” Zelenski said on the social network “Ukraine needs to strengthen air defense: more systems and missiles for them”. From Moncloa, the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Diego Martínez Belío, commented that Spain would announce an “important” aid package during the visit, but did not provide more details.

Given the information that points to financing for the purchase of American weapons destined for kyiv, the general secretary of Podemos, Ione Belarra, has demanded that the President of the Government desist from his “militarist drift” and not buy weapons from the United States to transfer them to Ukraine. In any case, the bilateral announcements made within the framework of this visit will be announced once the meeting scheduled this afternoon with the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, in La Moncloa after sharing a lunch with King Felipe VI at the Zarzuela Palace, in which the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, has also participated.
