Paramount strikes back and launches a hostile takeover bid for Warner Bros. Discovery

paramount launched this Monday a public acquisition offer (OPA) hostile by Warner Bros. Discovery addressing shareholders directly with a cash offer of $30 per share. Netflix announced last Friday an $83 billion deal to buy a significant portion of Warner Bros. Discovery, an agreement approved by the boards of directors of both companies.

The acquisition of Warner Bros by Netflix had already aroused distrust on the part of the president of the United States, Donald Trump. The president warned yesterday in statements to Bloomberg that the operation “it has to go through a process” and that we will see “what happens” although he has recognized that it is “a large market share” and that “could be a problem.” In any case, the process will be supervised by the US Department of Justice, which could consider it illegal if it exceeds the 30% market share.
