Plastic fragments detected in waffles sold throughout Spain



The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) has reported a new food alert after detecting the presence of Blue plastic fragments in a batch of Lotus brand Belgian waffles. The notification has been received through the Coordinated System for Rapid Information Exchange (SCIRI), after the health authorities of the Community of Madrid transmitted the alert.

The affected product is the “Belgian Waffle 250 g (x5)”, from the Lotus brand, which is packaged in packages of five units. The specific data of the lot is as follows: barcode 5410126002003, lot number 171225G and expiration date 12/17/2025. It is a non-refrigerated product that is sold at room temperature.

According to the information provided by AESAN, the initial distribution of the product It has been carried out in several autonomous communitiesamong them Andalusia, Aragon, Balearic Islands, Catalonia, Cantabria, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, Valencian Community, Madrid Community and the Basque Country. However, the agency warns that redistributions to other regions of the country could have occurred.

The competent authorities of the autonomous communities have already been notified through the SCIRI so that verify the withdrawal of the affected product from points of sale and avoid marketing them.

The AESAN recommends that people who have this product at home refrain from consuming it and, if in doubt, consult the official information available on its website or contact the regional health authorities.
