Renfe awards the maintenance of its commuter and medium-distance trains to Siemens, Alstom and CAF for 266 million



Renfe has awarded this Monday to Siemens, Alstom and CAF a series of maintenance contracts for local and medium-distance trains for an amount of 266 million euros by a period of 3 years. The total fleet affected by these contracts is 372 electric self-propelled vehicles and, if all the planned extensions of two more years are executed, the awarded agreements reach 433 million euros including VAT.

The tender has been structured in seven lots that group together different train models and territories where they provide service, which have been awarded to maintenance companies formed as a consortium between the train manufacturer and Renfe, depending on the company that manufactured the train at the time. In this way, Nertus (51% of Siemens and 49% of Renfe) will be responsible for the maintenance of 75 electric self-propelled vehicles of the 447 series, which are commuter trains manufactured by Bombardier (now Alstom), CAF and Siemens, at the Cornellá maintenance base (Barcelona) and for 59 million euros.

The company Irvia (51% Alstom and 49% Renfe) will assume the maintenance of another 40 vehicles of the same 447 series, but at the Montcada and Mataró base (Barcelona), where it will also maintain 47 units of the 465 series (the Civia commuter model), for 64 million euros. This company will also be responsible for maintaining 6 electric self-propelled vehicles of the 450 series and 12 of the 451 series, both double-decker Alstom commuters, at the Vilanova i la Geltrú base and for 9 million euros.

Barcelona and Madrid

The last of the contracts that will be carried out in Barcelona it will be executed by Btren (51% from Alstom and 49% from Renfe)in this case 14 electric self-propelled vehicles of the 470 series (old medium-distance trains manufactured between 1974 and 1985 that were remodeled after 1993), for 7.5 million euros. In Madridspecifically at the Atocha base, the company Actren (51% of CAF and 49% of Renfe) will keep 82 Commuter Civia (series 465) for 44.5 millionas well as another 18 medium-distance vehicles of the 449 series in Fuencarral and for 14.2 million euros

Finally, on the basis of Mostoles and Humanesa joint venture of Actren and Btren will take care of 78 electric self-propelled vehicles of the 446 series (suburban) for 68 million euros.
