Spaniards will spend an average of almost 800 euros per person at Christmas, 16.5% more than in 2024

Spanish consumers will spend on average up to 796 euros per person during Christmas 2025, especially on gifts, dinners and trips, which is up to 16.5% more than in 2024, where the average expenditure was 683 euros.
This was stated this Tuesday by a survey carried out by the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) to some 2,000 people between 18 and 74 years old, which allows us to know the expenses associated with the celebration of Christmas and the activities that we will prioritize, although it also reveals probable excesses in disbursements and a certain level of stress. “This year we will go out a little more: especially to eat with family and friends; but also to go to a market or a parade,” highlights the OCU in its report.
By games, Gifts represent the main expense with 370 eurosa little higher for the presents on Twelfth Night (192 euros) than for those on Christmas Eve (178 euros).
Other important disbursements are expenses related to classic Christmas dinners (132 euros) and trips (117 euros)in addition to the purchase of lottery (73 euros) and for the celebrations of Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve or Three Kings (another 73 euros). To which is also added the expense of home decoration, which represents another 31 euros per person.
The survey reveals frequent excesses in Christmas shopping, since 52% of Spaniards believe they will spend more than expected and that even 29% will try to delay the purchase of part of their gifts until January in order to take advantage of the sales.
Regarding gift purchases, The Internet remains the priority channel for 37% of those surveyedcompared to 29% who prefer to buy in physical stores, while the rest of the consumers will combine both types of stores to an equal extent.
Finally, asked about the Christmas outings they have planned, The most common will be to meet friends and family who do not live together to have lunch or dinner together.at least for 84% of those surveyed, but there are also walks through a Christmas market (70%), outings to enjoy the Three Kings Parade live (61%) or to see the Christmas lights turned on (55%).
The report also reveals that this year The intention to leave home is generally much higher than what they did last year.
