Telefónica and Dazn are awarded the rights to LaLiga for five years and 5,250 million

A coup of Telefónica and Dazn on the audiovisual board of Spanish football. Both companies are awarded exclusive rights to broadcast LaLiga for the cycle that covers from the 2027/2028 season to 2030/2031. The total price of the agreement amounts to 5,250 million euroswhich means a annual disbursement of more than 1,000 million for each of the five seasons included in the cycle, 6% more compared to the previous period.
The agreement extends the relationship of both operators with the competition and allows each to broadcast five matches per day throughout the season with the novelty that Telefónica loses the exclusivity that Movistar had to broadcast three full days on its channels. In the current cycle, the broadcasting rights are in the hands of Telefónica, although they are shared with Dazn – to whom the ‘teleco’ pays close to 280 million euros per season so that Movistar Plus+ distributes the matches in its package to its subscribers.
Telefónica thus consummates its ‘double’ a week after tie up the television rights of the Champions League for the same cycle in exchange for 1,464 million euroswhich means a annual disbursement of 366 million for each of the four seasons included in the cycle. The company thus reaffirms the strategy projected weeks ago in the presentation of the new strategic plan, when its CEO Emilio Gayo announced his intentions to attend the auctions for the LaLiga and Champions League football rights, but with a “disciplined” proposal and with his sights set “not about being the owner of everything, but about clients having access to everything”.
