Telefónica secures the rights to the Champions League until 2031 for 1,464 million



Telefónica ties up the rights Champions League television broadcasts. The listed Spanish company has been awarded the exclusive rights to broadcast all the major club competitions organized by UEFA for the cycle that spans from the 2027/2028 to 2030/2031 seasons. The agreement includes the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League, the UEFA Europa Conference League, the UEFA Youth League and the UEFA Super Cup, forming the complete package of so-called content premium of European football.

The award, communicated this Thursday to the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV), is still subject to the signing of the definitive contract with UEFA, a procedure that the parties hope to complete in the coming days. Once sealed, it will guarantee Telefónica the full broadcast of the competitions in the Spanish residential market, strengthening its relationship with the European championship that it has broadcast during the last decade.

The total price of the agreement amounts to 1,464 million euros, which represents an annual outlay of 366 million for each of the four seasons included in the cycle. With this figure, the operator increases its commitment to the most prestigious football after disbursing 960 million for three years in the August 2023 auction.
