The journalist of Economic InformationCarlos Manso Chicote, was awarded this Tuesday at the VII Spanish Journalism and Fishing Sector Awards promoted by Cepesca, the sector’s employers’ association, in the ‘Sustainability and Environment in Fishing’ category. The jury has awarded his article The fishing fleet seeks its ‘green label’ with profitable alternatives to diesel, published in this medium.

In it, Manso addresses how the European Union studies formulas to carry out the decarbonization of the fishing fleet and achieving climate neutrality by 2050so that you can abandon your dependence on diesel. An objective that faces several obstacles, among them, replacement alternatives “in their infancy”, the insufficiency of European funds allocated for this purpose and aging ships.

The jury considers that the article offers the reader an “accurate photograph of one of the most difficult challenges that Europe has posed to its fishing fleet” and also highlights “the agility and amenity of the text”, as well as the variety of sources consulted to offer “a global vision and from different prisms”. Along with Manso, the programs ‘Españoles en la Mar’ on Radio Exterior de España – RNE, and ‘Tierra y Mar’ on Canal Sur Televisión have also been awarded, as well as the RTVE journalist Nuria Verde and the photojournalist Alexandre Zunzarren.
