The production of cars ‘made in Spain’ corrects its decline in September with the best record of the year

Car production takes flight with a year-on-year rebound of 8.8% in Septemberwhen they were released 223,468 vehicles in Spanish factories. Although the increase is conditioned by the low production that was recorded in September 2024, due to the adaptation of the production chains of some factories to accommodate new electric models, the volume assembled this month is the highest recorded so far this year.
It is, therefore, a correction of the drop that annual manufacturing levels have been experiencing, where The comparison is around 5.2% lower than last yearwith 1,702,050 accumulated units. From the manufacturers’ association Anfac, author of these data, they relate the fall to stagnation in demand from European markets, and to the adaptation processes of the various factories to the new electrified models. With these records, the association chaired by Josep María Recasens expects that the end of the year will be below 2.3 million vehicles, being lower than in 2024.
By type of vehicle, 179,721 passenger cars were produced in September, which represents a year-on-year increase of 9.4%, and 43,747 commercial and industrial vehicles, 6.4% more than in the same month of the previous year. In matters of exportswere sent 189,636 vehicles abroad, 2.2% more than in September 2024although the accumulated figure for 2025 reflects a decrease of 8.6%, with 1,461,098 units exported.
Europe was once again the main partner of the Spanish plants with 91.3% of the destinations, despite reducing its share by 1.4 percentage points compared to the previous year, while America and Africa increased their participation to 3% and 3.3%respectively. Germany remained the main destination (35,048 units), followed by France (30,217), and with Turkey (24,460) and the United Kingdom (24,298) competing for third place. On the other hand, Italy reduced its orders by 20.8% and the Netherlands almost halved them (-47.2%)
He general director of Anfac, José López-Tafallwarned that “the specific rebound in production in September should not divert attention from the current manufacturing situation. Until the ninth month, we continue to accumulate a drop of 5%, at a time as crucial as the one we are going through, with the transformation towards electrified vehicles.” He added that “the low demand from European markets, together with greater competition from outside Europe, are an obvious signal to act immediately and avoid the loss of jobs, industry and competitiveness.”
On the other hand, López-Tafall stressed that The employers’ association works with the Government in the Spain Auto Plan 2030-2035which “becomes increasingly urgent to launch”, remembering that “Spain has in the automotive industry not only an economic and employment pillar, but also an opportunity for the future.” “The measures to strengthen our industry and our market have already been identified in the Plan, now it is urgent to implement them as soon as possible,” he stated.
