The unions call for mobilizations and threaten a civil servants’ strike if there is no salary agreement

Labor conflict is growing in the public sector. The main public service unions – UGT, CCOO and CSIF – are upping the ante and threatening to go on civil servants’ strike before the end of the year if the Government does not agree to negotiate a new salary increase.

This was stated by the three centers in a joint statement released this Monday morning. The mobilizations will begin at the end of this month throughout Spain and will last until the end of the year, “without ruling out the call for a day of strike,” warn UGT, CCOO and CSIF.

The three unions have left their differences behind to form a common front and unblock a negotiation that has been stuck all year. The previous salary agreement expired in 2024 without a new increase having begun to be outlined for this year. Nine and a half months after 2025 began, figures have not even been put on the table.

According to the Ministry of Public Function, led by Óscar López, conversations and meetings with the unions have been continuous throughout the year. But the union organizations do not see progress in the negotiation, which is stranded. It also did not sit well that the 0.5% increase that was missing as part of the 2024 agreement was approved six months late.
