“Those of us from ’76 could buy an apartment three or four years after starting to work”

The businessman Jose Eliasfounder of the group La Sirena among other projects, reflected this Thursday on his X account (formerly Twitter) about the culture of effort in a controversial publication that has caused him some criticism.

“My generation He was able to buy a flat at the age of four to start working. The one now has no hope of achieving it,” the Catalan businessman begins by writing.

“Me my parents sold me the motorcycle: If you behave well, study and get a degree, you will be a profitable man,” the millionaire continues in his message. “I listened to them and got my degree,” he adds.

“But I recognize that I played with an advantage: I was very lucky to be born in the boom of ’76. I think we were the luckiest generation in Spain of the last century,” reflects the businessman from Badalona.

“We left wanting to work like scoundrels. We didn’t drop our rings for nothing: You went as an apprentice or intern to any company. You end up carrying your boss’s coffees. You worked like no other,” says Elías.

“But after 3-4 years you could buy an apartment. And you said: well look, it’s worth it to me,” explains the businessman, who adds: “I have a goal. I have a future. I have an ambition. “I have hope.”

“Now I believe that there is no hope and that We go backwards like crabs. The worst thing is that the effort no longer guarantees anything. Why are you going to work like a scoundrel if in the end you don’t even get to a flat?” he asks.

In the opinion of José Elías, “the culture of effort has been lost because we have killed the incentive. And without incentive, ambition dies,” he concludes.

The businessman’s tweet has earned him numerous criticisms, especially for the part in which he maintains that those born in 1976 They could buy an apartment after only three or four years of work.

“You don’t even believe it”, “The only truth you’ve told is that you brought coffee to the boss”, “But where do you come from”, “I’m from your generation and You can’t even believe it about buying a flat in four years. It took me 25, with two careers under my belt and bringing a lot of coffee to the boss. And I’m one of the lucky ones,” concludes another.
