Vehicle registrations in Spain rise by almost 13% in 2025

Registrations of passenger cars and SUVs in Spain reached 1,148,650 units in the whole of 2025which represents an increase of 12.9% compared to the previous year, according to the figures released this Friday by the associations of manufacturers (Anfac), dealers (Faconauto) and sellers (Ganvam).
However, December ended with downward data after two months exceeding pre-pandemic figures. With 103,012 passenger cars soldis 2.2% below the same month in 2024 and 2.7% below December 2019. The main reason for this slight decline is that in December 2024 the Dana tragedy increased vehicle sales in Valencia.
Electrification continues to drive an important part of the market, with one in five sales consisting of plug-in hybrid or pure electric passenger cars.
Through channels, Private customers acquired 539,642 passenger cars and SUVs in 2025, 18.1% more in year-on-year terms, while companies registered 418,574 units in the year (+12%). For their part, ‘rent a car’ firms acquired 190,434 units in the national market throughout the year, which represents an increase of 2.3% in interannual values.
In December alone, the individual channel grew by 1.9% in registrations, to 50,213 units, while the business channel grew by 7.8%, to 43,362 units. The ‘rent a car’, for their part, registered 9,437 passenger carswhich means 40.5% less year-on-year.
On the other hand, the rental company registered 27,022 passenger cars in December, 2.5% less than the same month last year. In 2025 as a whole, renting increases by 3.4%, with 281,593 registrations.
11.6% more light commercial vehicles
In addition, registrations of light commercial vehicles reached 185,056 units in 2025, which represents an increase of 11.6% compared to the previous year. In December alone they grew by 6.3%, to 15,427 units.
By type, derivatives, vans and pickups rose 9.1% year-on-year in 2025, reaching 97,804 units. While, vans and trucks with light chassis achieved 87,252 registrations, an increase of 14.6% in interannual values.

Throughout 2025, registrations of Industrial vehicles, buses, coaches and minibuses fall by 3.1%with a total of 35,389 units, of which 30,989 belong to commercial vehicles (-3.6%) and 4,400 to buses, coaches and minibuses (0.7% more).
More than 100,000 electric vehicles sold
Regarding sales by fuel type, in 2025, the figure has remained at 101,628 electric vehicles, which represents an increase of more than 77%. In the case of plug-in hybrid models (PHEV), 123,989 sales were recorded, 111.7% more compared to 2024.
Regarding electrified passenger cars (BEV+PHEV), they close 2025 with very positive figures, since they register a increase of 94.6% and a total of 225,617 unitswhich represents a historic figure, exceeding 200,000 units registered in one year for the first time.
The market share of electrified vehicles reaches 19.6% in the accumulated annual figure, 8 percentage points above 2024which registered an 11.4% electrified share.
Non-plug-in hybrids (HEV) remain the most popular engine in December with a share of 43.9% and 45,253 sales, 0.2% more than the previous year. In the annual aggregate, they lead the year with 482,880 deliveries, 23.1% more in interannual values.
Combustion vehicles continue their downward trend, and in the case of gasoline vehicles, registrations fell in December by 30.1% year-on-year, with 23,874 deliveries, although they retained a market share of 23.2% in Decemberfollowing as the second engine last month in Spain. Cars with this engine also fell 16% in year-on-year terms in the twelve months of 2025 and accounted for 318,210 registered units.

Diesel, on the other hand, plummeted by 34.5% in December of this year, to 4,904 registered units, and remains with a market share of 4.8% ranking as the sixth engine in the month, behind gas cars. In 2025, diesel cars will fall by 35% annually with 62,669 units.
Registrations of gas vehicles increase by 49.1% In year-on-year terms in December, up to 5,120 units, achieving a market share of 5%. Likewise, cars that use gas register 59,274 units in all of 2025, 76.9% more than last year.
The average CO2 emissions of passenger cars sold in December remain at 100.1 grams of CO2 per kilometer traveled, 10.75% lower than the average emissions of new passenger cars sold in the same month of 2024. In the total for 2025, an average of 103 grams of CO2 per kilometer traveled is recorded, 10.81% lower than in 2024.
More than one year of consecutive growth
With the results of December, the national market manages to complete a year of growth in every month. Anfac values these results positively and They hope to maintain the “bullish” trend in 2026
“We close 2025 with double-digit growth, with almost 1.15 million passenger cars sold. It has been a very positive year because individuals and companies have also increased their demand for new passenger cars, drawing on the market,” said Anfac’s communications director, Félix García.
For his part, Faconauto’s communications director, Raúl Morales, has valued the good performance of electrified vehicle registrations this yearbased on the fact that the registration of electrified vehicles does not slow down thanks to the Moves Plan.
Meanwhile, Ganvam’s communications director, Tania Puche, has highlighted that registrations continue to rise in December. “With these data, The forecasts are met and we close 2025 labeling it a transition yearby staying close to the natural volume of our market,” he stated.
