Jeff Bezos reveals which professionals will be saved from the artificial intelligence work ‘purge’

Jeff Bezos has reflected on the effect that artificial intelligence is going to have on the labor market. The founder of amazon has pointed out the type of worker that this technology will not be able to replace. And it’s about all those people who have their own ability to invent. The billionaire businessman believes that the creativity that humans have is a fundamental element to differentiate ourselves from machines.

He has done so in his participation in the Italian Tech Week 2025. It was there that he highlighted that the power of invention not only drives innovation, but is essential to advance in the world of technology. In fact, it is precisely this mentality that has led his company to success and even being able to develop Blue Origin.

The future of work, according to Jeff Bezos

To explain this, Bezos wanted to share one of his personal experiences. He said that one summer he was on his grandfather’s ranch and spent months repairing a bulldozer without help: “To remove the transmission, we had to build our own crane.” This experience made him see the value of creativity.

“Put a white board in front of me and I can generate a hundred ideas in half an hour“, said Bezos, who defines himself as an inventor by nature. He also wanted to make it clear that it is an aptitude that he looks for in all those who want to work in his companies: “When I interview candidates, I ask them to give me an example of something they have invented.”

On the other hand, Bezos believes that innovation is a kind of antidote to competition: “Two kids in a garage scare me more than the competitors I already know,” he said in an interview. In it, there was referring to the spirit with which Google or Apple were born. According to the businessman, the rise of AI has caused companies to change the way they value workers. And creativity is increasingly being prioritized over years of experience or the number of degrees they have.
