Moeve becomes a pioneer in the supply of 100% renewable diesel within a Spanish airport

moeve has started supplying 100% renewable diesel (HVO) at the service station that manages on the air side of the Prat Airport (Barcelona) and which supplies all land vehicles that operate in the facility, thus becoming the first in Spain within an airport facility, the company reported.
Specifically, it is the station that supplies the entire fleet of land vehicles that operate in this facilityso from now on all the ground operations of the airlines and handling companies that work at Barcelona airport will be able to decarbonize their activity.
Moeve’s Executive Vice President of Mobility, Pierre-Yves Sachethighlighted that with the supply of HVO at El Prat Airport the company begins the supply of this second generation (2G) biofuel in airport facilities, “one more step within its firm commitment to the sustainability of the airline sectorwhich is already supplied by SAF in the main Spanish airports”.
HVO manages to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 90% throughout its life cycle -from production to use-, compared to traditional fuels. Furthermore, its chemical composition is analogous to fossil fuels, so its use can be immediate, since it is not necessary to make modifications to the engines or storage and distribution infrastructure.
Moeve produces this HVO from used cooking oils in its La Rábida energy park (Palos de la Frontera, Huelva), thus promoting the circular economy.
Likewise, with the aim of guaranteeing supply to its customers in land, sea and air transport, the company is building, together with Bio-Oils, the largest second-generation biofuel complex in southern Europe, which will have an annual production capacity of one million tons of HVO and SAF.
The company’s objective is to become a benchmark in the energy transition this decade and lead the production of renewable fuels in Spain and Portugal, with a capacity of annual production of 2.5 million tons.
