Yolanda Díaz is studying that the State assume part of the cost of the palliative permit that she wants to create

The Ministry of Labor will study the new palliative care permit that Yolanda Díaz has proposed to social agents can be partially financed with public funds so that the cost does not fall entirely on the companies. The proposal, advanced this Wednesday by El País and which social dialogue sources confirm to Economic Information, It comes from the employers, who do not want to assume the costs that the measure would entail.

The idea would be that Social Security would partially take charge of that paid leave that Labor wants to promote with a scheme similar to the one that already exists for parents who care for children with cancer or other serious illnesses. These aids allow parents to reduce their working hours by half or more, while the cost is borne by the public treasury. Union sources see little progress in the proposal, which would have to have the approval of Social Security.

The approach has been moved to this Wednesday’s meeting between Labor, unions and employers in which they discussed for four hours the modifications to the work permit system that Yolanda Díaz wants to promote. The ministry’s proposal is to extend from two to a maximum of ten days the paid leave for the death of a spouse, de facto partner or relatives up to the second degree of consanguinity (siblings, grandparents and grandchildren).

In addition, it proposes creating two new paid permits. The first of them, a 15 business day leave for people who have to care for relatives who require palliative care. The degrees of relationship to which it would apply are the same as those that already apply for the death permit. Likewise, they propose creating a special permit to be able to accompany a person who is going to receive euthanasia.

Beyond the issue of permit financing, The meeting has concluded without major progress and with the confirmation that there is no agreement between the three parties. The employers continue to refuse to accept the measure and the unions call on the employers to put a specific proposal on the table at the next dialogue table.
