Torres (BBVA) attributes the failure of the operation to the expectation of a second takeover bid and the contrary opinion of the Sabadell council

The president of BBVA, Carlos Torres, rules out his resignation after the failure of the takeover bid for Banco Sabadell, in which acceptance has been less than 26% and attributes this low percentage to the contrary opinion of the board of directors of the Catalan group and the expectation of a second takeover bid. The manager explained at a press conference that his continuity does not depend “at all” on the result of this operation. “It is a lost opportunity for everyone, but it is not at all a reason to resign,” said the bank’s chief executive at a press conference.
