The association recalls that in February 2024 the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030 sent a request to the main supermarket and hypermarket chains to ask them to prove that the increases that they had applied since January 2023 to The prices of many basic foods have not implied increases in their profit marginsa practice prohibited while the products were affected by the VAT reduction.

Despite this, Facua warns that Consumption has not announced the opening of any disciplinary proceedings despite cases as clear as the margin increases in olive oil reported by the association.

From January 1, 2025, basic foods such as olive oils, milk, bread, eggs, cheese, fruits, vegetables, legumes, tubers, cereals and flour, which They had VAT at 2%, they went to 4%while VAT on pasta and seed oils rose from 7.5% to 10%.

For its part, The five-kilogram net of potatoes has become more expensive on average by 7.1% in recent weeks, while iceberg lettuces cost 8.7% more than a month ago.

In addition, Facua has registered increases in the price of carrots (5.7% on average), olive oil (4.7%), onions (3.7%), the oil sunflower (3.4%), the carton of whole milk (1.7%), the rice round (1.2%), the apples golden (0.7%), the lentils pardina (0.7%) and wheat flour (0.5%).

The Sliced ​​mushrooms and garlic are the only foods analyzed in December that maintain the same price than the previous month, while among the foods that cost less than in November are macaroni (-0.2%), medium eggs (-0.5%), conference pears (-0.7%), lemons (-3.6%) and oranges (-33%).
